EPIC never talks to an AI itself. You paste a prompt into the chatbot you already use, so it's free for you and for the site.
The basic steps
- Open a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, or another chatbot.
- Press Copy full prompt, paste it into the chat as one message, and send it.
- The AI opens the scene. Reply in character. Tips for each chatbot
Before you start: study
Each Conversation has a For you section with background on the date, the place, the people, and the hard subjects. It isn't sent to the AI. Read it first, as long as you like, then decide who you'll be in the scene.
Chatbot tips
- ChatGPT (chatgpt.com or the app): paste into a new chat. Free accounts handle the usual prompt length. To skip re-pasting, a paid account can save the prompt in a Project or custom GPT.
- Claude (claude.ai or the app): paste into a new chat. A Project can hold the prompt as its instructions.
- Gemini (gemini.google.com or the app): paste into a new chat, or save the prompt as a Gem.
- Meta AI and others: paste into a new chat. If a long paste is cut off, use the See or copy the parts separately option and send the parts in order, E, P, I, then C, saying "more to come" until the last.
- On a phone: tap Copy full prompt, open the chatbot app, long-press the message box, and choose Paste.
Stepping out of the scene
While you practice
(OOC) your question— step out of the 18th century and ask the AI something plainly.(OOC) Resume— return to the scene where you left it.(OOC) Debrief— end the scene and get coaching on your portrayal.
Hard subjects
The people of the eighteenth century held views many of us now reject, about slavery, rank, women, and Native nations. EPIC asks the AI to portray them honestly, without softening and without gratuitous slurs, because interpreters must learn to present the past as it was. If something needs saying outside the scene, use (OOC).
Make your own
Use Build your own to choose an Engine, a Period, and an Individual, and write your own scene. Nothing you write is stored; a share link keeps your scene inside the link itself.
